— Welcome to this week’s Episode of AudioTrek … Beacon Hill Carriage Ride in Victoria B.C.

Beacon Hill Park in Victoria, B.C. is my destination today. In 1858 the land was set aside as a protected area. Then, in 1882, the land was officially made into a municipal park and named Beacon Hill Park.

Today, you’ll find dozens of Peacocks roaming freely. A concert – bandshell with various free concerts over the Summer. A children’s farm and petting zoo. Various sporting fields (baseball, tennis, soccer, lawn bowling and cricket). PLUS, lots of gardens, walkways, and water features.

I spent almost 3 hours walking around and filming at different locations throughout the park. Later that same afternoon I booked a horse and carriage tour of the garden. We started out downtown on the waterfront at the Legislative Assembly. The horse was a big and beautiful “Shire”, and as we pulled away from the curb we ventured thru the residential streets of Victoria to the Park.

Once we arrived in the park, there were very few cars driving past so this is where the bulk of the audio comes from. Having just been there a few hours before, it was a nice change to just ride around the park… kind of forces one to relax, and the sounds of the hooves on the road are just a little bit mesmerizing.

So, I merged the many shots I filmed in the park earlier, with the sounds and a few shots of the horse as I traveled around the park. This whole experience was very rejuvenating and beautiful. I had a great time and I hope you do as well. Enjoy!
