— Welcome to this week’s Episode of AudioTrek … Canoeing on Lake Nottely in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Georgia.

So where do I get inspiration or ideas about where to film? Years ago, listening to an album for the first time, I was surprised to hear what appears to be an old wooden rowboat as part of the intro to the song. What Song?  Signs of Life. Having spent summers in Northern Wisconsin as a kid. Fishing. I have a strong audio muscle memory (if that really is a thing) to the sounds of water on a hull, or paddles in the water.

So here we are MANY years later and I decided to rent a canoe and see what would happen. Well, it’s been a while, I’m not as flexible as I used to be, but I did manage not to tip the canoe over! Full disclosure here… being on a lake near population can also be noisy… and the water really does make sounds carry… dogs barking, people talking, compressors running while pressure washing decks, and the obvious, boats and even airplanes. So, after over 90 minutes canoeing, and removing a LOT of the unnatural sounds, I did have to do a few loops on the audio track.

As you check out this episode set, watch a few minutes of me trying to paddle and keep upright, then just close your eyes and enjoy the sounds of the journey.

Enjoy!
