— Welcome to this week’s Episode of AudioTrek … Misty Morning Redwoods in Occidental / Sonoma County Coastal Redwoods.
This morning I find myself in this grove of Redwoods in Sonoma County, just a few miles up a mountain road from the town of Occidental.
It’s one of those mornings where the clouds are layered over the coastal range. Here in the redwood grove, the “mist” is almost like a gentle rain. Whisps of fog move thru these beautiful trees with just a hint of sunlight trying to break thru. Here you can imagine yourself surrounded by mystical, magical creatures.
Back in the 1990’s, many of these redwoods were slated to be harvested. Friends of the Grove, a group of citizens launched a year’s long campaign to protect this redwood stand which opened to the public in 2000. Originally, at 28 acres, and over the years expanded to 48 acres. Here is a sanctuary of old growth trees protected and waiting to be enjoyed.
Again, this morning was quiet, you can hear the morning birds and of course the mist almost raining as accumulated water falls from the towering trees.
Relax and enjoy this almost spiritual place!
… Relax. Explore. Meditate. Sleep.
